So…I have been working my Puerto Rican butt off and this weekend so I decided to make my business trip to NYC a family event too. It was invigorating, enchanting, and just plain fun! Here is a recap of just some of our adventures. Please be sure to visit our other sections for more food and style straight from NYC!
July 3rd 2013: Mini me and I just hung out together, ate at a local restaurant and went to bed early in order to catch an early AM ride into the city.
July 4th, 2013:
Mini me and I normally drive from DC to NY but honestly, I didn’t want to put the wear and tare on my car or myself. Plus flying with make-up is a no go these days. The ride was fantastic! It wasn’t packed and there was free wifi. Unfortunately, I wanted to get some military work done and couldn’t because of the login firewall. UGH! This means a super late night on Monday. Oh well, so worth it!
I love my hometown! The hustle and bustle with people everywhere! It’s great! There is no place like home!
First things first, hitting the local market is a must. Fresh flowers, food for the weekend, and getting ready for our July 4th festivities.
NOPE! I didn’t do it. I went with more healthy choices. I did however eat some fantastic local cuisine. Check out our food section for details.
New York is a city with endless possibilities and as you can see, endless sights!! No matter where we went, there was something worth taking a picture of. Historic structures, arts and entertainment, and the home-grown entertainer. In today’s society you have to do what you can to make a buck and this may include throwing on some pasties, a thong, and some body paint and charging a buck or two for photos.
Mini me means so much to me and having this time with her in our favorite city was so special. This was a photo of us on July 4th camped out in our claimed spot waiting for the show. I can’t believe how grown up she is and how proud she carries herself.
As we waited for the show to start, our flag flew high over the harbor. We saw this photo opportunity and had to take it. What a proud moment sitting in New York on Independence Day 2013 and seeing that flag fly so proudly.
BEFORE PHOTO: This is a view from our perch! Around 8:00 pm before things really got started. Yes, it was a hot one but we sucked it up knowing we had a place to watch the fireworks. New York’s finest scattered along the way keeping everyone safe. Thank you New York’s Finest.
AFTER PHOTO: In only an hour, this is what happened! During this our the area was covered with people and activity. All types of wonderful people out to enjoy our Independence Day with fellow neighbors!
A few action shots of my mini me and the beautiful fireworks show. You can see a sea of people, phones, cameras, and street blocks full of proud Americans.
July 5th, 2013:
You can’t do New York without doing a Broadway Show! So….we took in Jersey Boys. Let me tell you something; this is by far the best show I have seen. Funny, song, dance, sad, dramatic, and the performers where just amazing. Great job to them and an absolute must for anyone to see when in New York.
After an amazing two-hour show, it was time to change gears for some New York spirit. GO YANKEES!! Now we transition from inside air conditioning and laughing and chilling to heading to the oven known as the New York subway. Mini Me’s first trip to Yankee Stadium and first NYY game. New York Yankees vs the Baltimore Orioles! Yanks 3, Orioles 2, in the 9th. Can you say come back! A new chapter in Mini Me’s life and another great time for me!
I can only imagine what is running through her mind at this point!! OMG, the people! What is….About to Go Down?! Or is it the Indie Rock Song blaring through her head phones. She embraced the New York lifestyle and rocked the streets with headphones in and attitude in her stride!
July 6th 2013:
So I have said over and over; it’s time to get my body back both physically and mentally. This morning, I took another stab at it. This machine is a cross between a stepper and an elliptical and will no doubt….Kick your Ass! Rocking the pink tennies, pink headphones and rosy red cheeks, it was on!
After a good workout you have to recharge! It was breakfast time at the local bistro/bakery. A tray of fresh-cut Brie, some fruit and yoghurt, and juice we where energized for the day!
(NOTE: Please see our food section for more treats and recipes from the city.)
After we walked around the hotel area and did some shopping, we went back to the room to drop off bags and recoup. Mini me decides to scope the internet and has the craziest idea I’ve ever heard. “Anit-gravity yoga mom?” she says. What the heck, why not!
(NOTE: Please see our full coverage on our anti-gavity yoga experience at our Fashion and Beauty section.)
A little collage of your anit-gravity yoga experience. My little spider monkey hanging from the rafters, me nestled in and shortly thereafter……knocked out! This is a new and must do experience for anyone looking for a good workout with a new and creative twist.
(NOTE: Check out our Fashion and Beauty section for more local stores and style coverage in the city.)
July 7th, 2013:
Boo! Today we head home, leaving the best city in the world. Walking back from yoga we see the streets littered with vendors, performers, and window shopping as we walked. Knowing it was time to get on the train and head home the reality set in. The weekend was over…
I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend! God bless our troops and our beautiful country! I love the U.S.A!
