Christmas Decor on a Budget

YEEAY!  December is finally here!  This is my all time favorite month! The month of giving, sharing and loving!  A celebration for all!

As the cold winter creeps upon us, I sit and reflect on all my blessings.  I have promised myself I will no longer focus or give second thought to negativity.  Instead, I will focus on my successes and all that I am grateful for.  I have accomplished things in my life that only few have.  I have a beautiful daughter, Olivia; I have helped so many suffering people with cancer where I was then chosen to run the torch for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games; I continuously fund and feed the needy; I joined the Air Force where I had the privilege of teaching young airmen combat skills; was hired as the only female on a 17 man protection team for General James Mattis for almost four years; chosen to protect innocent victims of heinous crimes as a federal agent; I continue to have a successful cosmetics business; I am blessed with creativity where I try to help inspire others; and I have never needed anything… I list this all because of my faith in Jesus Christ, all the Angels and Saints and would not be where I am today without them!

I have always loved style and home decor.  I have a very eclectic style and love vintage, romantic and retro items.  This year I chose something new for my new outlook on living.  I went to one of my favorite craft stores, Hobby Lobby, and bought all my Christmas Tree ornaments for about $200.  This included ornaments for my Mini Me’s bedroom tree.  (She will post on her blog at Rants and Raves of a Teenage Soul.)

This year Mini Me and I wanted to add in whimsical personal ornaments.  She chose this beautify pink, white, and silver one with a silhouette of a woman on it and an ornament with her initial, O.

I wanted something of beauty.  I love Peacocks.  In Christianity, the Peacock represents the “all-seeing” church, along with the holiness and sanity associated with it.  Additionally, the Peacock represents resurrection, renewal and immorality within the spiritual teachings of Christianity.

I also picked an ornament with my initial, A.

With us moving to Alaska soon, I couldn’t help but add in something of nature and fell in love with this ornament.

So not me… I am a city girl getting ready to venture into the wild with deer, bear, fish and moose.  HA!  LMAO!  This should be interesting.

Some of the other ornaments we bought this year include:

And finally our tree was topped with this beautiful star.

Stars are used as Christmas tree toppers because they represent the star in the East which is said to have hung over the manger in which Jesus was born.  This is the light in the sky that the Wise Men journeyed toward to find the new King.

Date: 1481

Artist: Leonardo da Vinci

Title: Adoration of the Magi

Critics and antiquarians have spent many hours on this drawing/painting, attempting to work out what parts of it were painted by da Vinci, and what parts were the work of a later hand. No matter. The superb drawing and composition are unmistakably da Vinci’s.

The painting pulses with energy. There is a sense of barely controlled chaos in the people, animals and landscape – but at the centre, holding it all together, is the still, calm figure of Mary, and a chubby, unconcerned Baby Jesus.

Happy Birthday Jesus!

XOXO Besos,

Anna Castillo
