What a complete hot mess! The above before pictures were of my bestie, JW’s dining room. Let me tell you whoever painted his dining room red should be shot! This color took so many coats of white I think I got tennis elbow, but is was oh so worth it!
Let me explain, JW was left with his house in shambles after his divorce. He requested my interior design eye to help redo his entire pad. He wanted no memories left in the house of his past life with his ex and looked forward to a new, positive, and cozy environment for both he and his gorgeous daughter, “T” to call home.
Of coarse, I was completely honored. He has been my rock for some time now. What better way to repay him than lend my helping hand.
JW was working off a limited budget so I went to my all-time bargain spot, TJMaxx. I found these frames discounted to $4, $5, and $7, each. I decided to use gift bags ($2.00 each) to add color and provide custom art pieces for his dining room walls.
We spoke about keeping the space simple but eclectic. He wanted it to still feel inviting for female guests. Often, men have a tendency to pick all masculine colors. We went for a mix.
On the walls:
I chose a bright white for the bottom portion of the room and a lavender gray for the top. I am obsessed with bamboo style shades and thought they would really warm up the room.
The furniture was his already. I think changing the room colors and decor really updated the furniture and somehow it just all worked together. I loved the whimsical center pieces. I found the two white bowls for $3 each and the green one was on clearance for $7. I placed candles in each for under $5.
I found an awesome bubble mirror (more of a classy masculine touch) which I paired with two candle sconces. LOVE IT!
and now…. the AFTER!
Now, my favorite home-made art installation was a magnifying glass I scored for $18. As some of you know my full-time job involves forensic science and crime scene investigations. So, I decided to place a fingerprint or two behind the glass in order to allow the audience a view. I loved this idea so much I bought another style for my new home.
I spent an entire day hooking this up…JW loved it so much I think I actually brought a tear to his eye! I wish I could have taken a picture of JW’s face when he saw it for the first time.
I am grateful for all my friends, but there is something special about the ones who have been through some tough times with you! I count my blessings everyday and thank God for surrounding me with angels!
Thank you for all you do for me and Mini Me! I don’t know if I can ever repay you for your kindness, mentorship, friendship, and encouragement! You are an unforgettable soul! I am so happy our paths were able to cross again! I wish you nothing but happiness, and love you with all my heart!
(P.S. inkinsideout.com supporters…we completely made over his casa! Stay tuned for more room breakdowns coming later this month.)
