Master Holiday Small Talk!

PARTY TIME!  Yes! Yes! Yes!  Fall/Winter is my favorite time of the year!  This means, food, family, fun, and parties!  So, to help lessen your social stress, I have compiled a short list to help you mingle like a pro!

1. Start with a compliment

  • One of the best ways to start a conversation is to say something nice about a person’s hair, style, or beauty look.  Pick something small like an accessory or tell them how much you love their lip color.  It’s sure to open the door for a convo.

2. Mention the party

  • One of the first things people do at a party is find the food and drink.  Share your opinion of how great the cocktails are or that you loved the bite sized hors d’oeuvre’s are.  If the food and drinks completely suck, either say that or focus on how much you loved the decor.  Momma always said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say then, keep it to yourself!”

3. Keep it interesting

  • Inkinsideout-anna castillo-Food and Wine-Master Holiday Small Talk-November-2014 Don’t pry into a person’s personal life…stay focused on fun questions; How do you know the hosts? OMG, have you seen that movie Gone Girl? etc.

4. On to the next

  • If the conversation is stale, politely remove yourself by stating…”Please excuse me, I am in need of a refreshment.  Would you care to join me?” Then, introduce a new topic or the change in environment may cause you both to mingle with the other guests.

Either way, you came to party and have a good time.  So, enjoy yourself!  You deserve it!

XOXO Happy Holidays!
